Ooh I might have to whip something up for this... If I could only find Bolinks old Little Red Wagon, or a decent direct drive setup... maybe a Tamiya F1 with some big pede rims and slicks on the rear and an appropriate body... hmm

Post Re: Drags
This is last year's poster. No one in town is running the drags anymore. Doug and Donette sent an email out yesterday about it. They still have timing equipment but can no longer run it.

here's a copy of the email:

Greetings Drag Racers

Spring is surely coming and with it, for some of us - the pent up need for speed! But where and when?

People have been asking Donette and I about rc drag racing for 2011 so we looked up the folks who took over Calgary racing last year – apparently the owner of their light system has given up because of what he thought was poor turnout / support and sold his equipment.

This is unfortunate as we still believe that there is an interest in rc drag racing in Calgary - but we also know from personal experience that any amount of success requires a real commitment to frequent communication and consistent race activity.

We’ve kept up our racer’s contact list up as best we could, and are offering it to racers here so that you might discuss how to breathe new life into Calgary rc drag racing.

While no longer able to host races ourselves, Donette and I still have our timing equipment and would entertain proposals from people committed to hosting a season of rc drag racing……..

Doug & Donette Hyslip

The guy who ran it last year only did it once or twice I think. I was at one of the drag days and it was fun but there was only three people there so no actual organized races happened. Hopefully someone can get it going and advertise more so lots of people show.

That's too bad.
But, it sounds like it could be a go if someone has the time for it.
Anyone up for it?

I know at least 4 or 5 people who'd be down for some drag racing.

Post Re: Drags
I would suggest spreading the word and perhaps arranging a get together with Doug and Donette about the coming season with as many people as possible. Perhaps around the end of March?
They are THE people to talk to about RC Drag Racing. They were the ones that brought the first equipment to Calgary and ran it for three seasons and have a wealth of information to draw on. Their system is a great one, basically a plug and play deal and very easy to set up.

There are a couple of things to consider ... location and the transportation of the equipment.

Locations previously used were on 52 St & 72 Ave SE - behind the A&W and the location pictured on the above poster beside the Flying J truck stop in the SE. Ideally a location could be found that enables a smooth straight stretch in the 250 - 300 ft range and near public access. A corner of a shopping mall parking lot etc. would be perfect. Several Calgary racers attended a race held in Red Deer a couple of years ago and their location was a corner of a mall parking lot near a major road intersection. After an hour of set up the crowds grew from people passing by to spectators lining both sides of the track taking in the races.
An empty van or truck would be needed to handle transporting the equipment.

I can think of at least 10 people off the top of my head that would be interested. Health and the boys entry into Motocross racing split time available last year but we would be willing to lend a hand if needed.
I have three New Era dragsters and a couple electric Pro Mods sitting idle and would look forward to a race. And I know of several other New Era dragster owners and several Pro Mod owners that would be interested in a season..

What type of dragster are you working on Zig?
What type of Pro Mod did you put together newbie5.9? :pics:

Actually my plans have changed a bit since posting that.. I may be getting an RJspeed pro mod, but I'm looking at designing my own chassis right now. I have access to all the CAD and stress analysis software I need through work, so I'm in the early stages of a viability assessment. If I do go through with it, it's going to be electric, but beyond that I have no idea yet.
